Aarey forests in Mumbai is home to almost 5000 tribals and indigenous community spread across 27 padas (village hamlets). Unfortunately the residents living here still use highly polluting rudimentary stoves that need forest fire wood. This hugely impacts the health and well being of women and their families, and puts pressure on forests for the firewood.
Smokeless Cookstove Foundation has pioneered improved mud cookstoves based on Rocket Stove Technology that reduces firewood dependency and smoke by more than 50%. They been actively working with a group of local women to train them in making and setting up these mud stoves across households in Aarey, helping their community reduce the dependency on forest wood while also earning additional income by working on this project.
Contribute as little as Rs 3000 and help move one tribal family at Aarey towards a cleaner cooking environment. Through these funds, we aim to reach over 100 house holds in Aarey in the next 6 months.
